The unfortunate incident occurred during the bridal shower, where the bride was celebrating with her close friends. According to Evangelist Oyedotun, the father of the deceased bride and a member of the C&S Reformed Church in Isale-High School, Rebecca had shown no signs of illness prior to the incident.
It was around 10:30 a.m. when she suddenly slumped and lost consciousness.

The upcoming wedding, scheduled for Saturday, August 19, 2023, was meant to unite Rebecca with her groom, Abiodun Oluwadamilare. The families had been eagerly preparing for the joyous occasion, including traditional rituals and festivities.
The groom’s sister shared that the wedding preparations were in full swing, and the atmosphere was filled with excitement. However, tragedy struck unexpectedly, casting a shadow over the celebrations.
Amidst the grief-stricken atmosphere, the bride’s mother, Mrs. Ruth Oyedotun, was too overwhelmed to speak. Meanwhile, Evangelist Oyedotun recounted the events leading up to his daughter’s passing. The family promptly rushed the collapsed bride to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, hoping that medical intervention would restore her health and allow her to proceed with the wedding.
After a period of revival and apparent stability, hopes were kindled that Rebecca would recover. Unfortunately, her condition took a turn for the worse during the early hours of Saturday. The family made the difficult decision to transfer her to Bowen University Teaching Hospital for further medical assessment.
The groom, Abiodun, was left shattered by the unfolding tragedy. His emotional distress was evident as he anxiously cried out, “Let me take her away.” The family spent the entirety of that Saturday by Rebecca’s side in the hospital, praying for her recovery.
Despite the relentless efforts and medical attention, Rebecca’s health continued to deteriorate. Tragically, on Sunday morning, her battle came to an end, leaving a sense of profound loss and sadness within the community.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the fragility of precious moments. The grief-stricken families, friends, and the community as a whole mourn the loss of a young bride whose dreams and aspirations were cut short on the eve of her wedding day.
