At the Kiandutu police station in Thika, a police officer tragically took her own life on Friday by shooting herself.
The Commanding Officer, Irene Wangari Migongo, committed suicide around 9:45 am, as reported by Officer Peter Muigai Njoroge, who was at his residence within the station when the incident occurred.
Njoroge heard a loud noise emanating from Migongo’s residence, prompting him to notify the OCS (Officer in Charge). Upon investigation, they discovered Migongo lying on the floor facing upwards.

Beside her lay the Steyr rifle that had been issued to her for her scheduled patrol duties on Friday. Crime scene officers determined that Migongo had shot herself in the chest, resulting in her immediate death.
The rifle, loaded with 19 rounds, was confiscated for further administrative procedures. The reasons behind the incident are yet to be determined, as her colleagues have indicated that she had not shown any signs of stress previously.
Police noted that her only recent message, posted on her mobile status at 8:26 pm on Thursday, read, “Because tomorrow may never be mine,” accompanied by the song ‘Sweet bye bye.’
