‘One Day I Hope To Hug You In Heaven’ – US Nurse Tells Kidnappers Who Held Her For 13 Days In Haiti

Alix Dorsainvil, an American nurse who was held captive along with her daughter for almost two weeks in Haiti this summer, has shared her first public remarks since their release earlier this month.

In a video posted on YouTube and the website of the community ministry where she works, Dorsainvil addressed her captors in Haitian Creole, expressing her sincere willingness to provide medical care to them.

During her captivity, Dorsainvil assured her captors that her words were not manipulative but genuine. She conveyed that the doors of her clinic would always be open to them or anyone in need of medical assistance. She extended forgiveness to her abductors, whom she referred to as “gangsters,” and shared her love for them in Christ. She even expressed the hope of hugging them in heaven someday.

Dorsainvil and her daughter were released after 13 days of captivity, during which they were taken at gunpoint from the El Roi Haiti site where she worked in the capital, Port-au-Prince. The circumstances of their abduction and the terms of their release remain unclear.

The abduction garnered international attention and garnered support from the community she serves. Dorsainvil thanked those who stood up for her freedom and acknowledged the impact of their prayers. She implored her captors to seek a more peaceful path, emphasizing that true satisfaction and fulfillment come from the love of Jesus Christ.

Dorsainvil’s connection with Haiti goes back to her first visit after the 2010 earthquake, during which she developed a deep affection for the people. She has been working as a nurse for schoolchildren at El Roi Haiti since 2020 and married the organization’s director in 2021.

Despite the trauma she experienced, Dorsainvil’s love for Haiti and its people remains unwavering. While she acknowledged her need for healing and time to recover from the emotional trauma, she expressed her desire to return to Haiti to continue supporting the community in Christ.
