Hugo Broos Optimistic About South Africa World Cup Qualifying Chances Over Nigeria

South Africa’s head coach, Hugo Broos, has expressed confidence in Bafana Bafana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing their strong position in Group C of the ongoing qualifiers. South Africa is competing alongside Nigeria, Rwanda, and Benin Republic, with only one team from the group securing automatic qualification to the World Cup.

Following a 2-0 victory over Benin Republic in Abidjan, South Africa solidified their top position in Group C with 13 points, extending their lead to a five-point advantage over second-place Rwanda. Broos emphasized the importance of staying focused and avoiding complacency. In an interview with Sowetan Live, he said, “We must be confident and not fear any opponent. The key is to keep working hard, as we have been doing, and not assume that the job is done.”

While acknowledging their favorable position, Broos cautioned against taking their success for granted, adding, “We are in a good position, but with the group we’re in, if we avoid making mistakes, we are very close to qualification.”
