Rivers PDP Chairman Criticizes Sole Administrator Inactivity

Robinson Ewor, the Chairman of the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the Sole Administrator appointed to the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), of failing to take any action since his appointment. Ewor expressed that there is no justification for the state of emergency declared in Rivers by President Bola Tinubu.

In an interview with Arise News, Ewor stated that the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers was unnecessary and not in line with the constitutional requirements. He argued that the conditions needed for such a declaration, as outlined in Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution, were not present in the state. Ewor further criticized the President for failing to address the true underlying issue in the state, which he believes stems from former Governor Nyesom Wike’s desire to control the state’s resources and political structure. He alleged that Wike had supported the election of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as well as other state and federal officials, in exchange for control over the state’s governance and resources.

Ewor contended that the real issue in Rivers is the political struggle between Wike and Fubara for dominance, rather than any form of crisis. He pointed out that the state remains peaceful, questioning why a state of emergency was declared when there is no visible unrest.

He also criticized the actions of the Sole Administrator, stating that there has been no tangible work or intervention since his appointment. Ewor claimed that the security forces deployed to the state are not actively engaged, as there is no real emergency. He also questioned the President’s authority to remove Governor Fubara, even under a state of emergency, as such actions are not supported by the Constitution.

In conclusion, Ewor rejected the state of emergency and the actions taken by the President, stating that none of the constitutional conditions for such a declaration are present in Rivers State. He reiterated that the declaration is unconstitutional and unacceptable to the people of the state.
