“I Lied About My Age For Years — Yemi Alade Opens Up On Secret Struggle With Depression”

According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Yemi Alade has revealed how deceiving people about her age once led her into a period of depression.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning singer confessed that she repeatedly told people she was 22 years old for three consecutive years. However, she was confronted with the truth when she later realized she had actually turned 25.

The “Knack Am” hitmaker disclosed that the realization affected her deeply, admitting that she struggled mentally for years as her mind struggled to accept the truth about her age.

She said, “There was a time someone asked me my age, and for three years, I kept saying I was 22. Then I realized I was actually 25. I took out my phone, did the maths, and when I saw the truth, I was depressed for days. My mind just couldn’t process it. For three years, I didn’t even know my real age.”

The actress, who started working as a teenager, shared that she once sought shelter with Yemi Alade when she had nowhere to stay after long nights working as an usher and model far from her home in Ikorodu.
