Lagos has been a hotbed of political and social discourse, with various communities voicing their concerns over the state’s affairs. Among the voices is an Igbo man who has sparked significant attention with his views on investment and peace in Lagos.

“Any Igbo man that speaks like this does not have an investment in Lagos and is part of the rogues pushing chaos, pretending to support Ndi Igbo,” he stated emphatically. His words resonate deeply within the Igbo community in Lagos, raising questions about loyalty, investment, and the real motives behind some of the unrest seen in recent times.

The context of this statement aligns with the broader narrative surrounding Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been a controversial figure advocating for the independence of Biafra from Nigeria. In Ojota, a bustling area in Lagos, residents have mixed reactions. Chukwuemeka, a trader in the local market, said, “We have lived here peacefully for years. Those who are causing trouble do not represent us. We want to continue our businesses without fear.”

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) also weighed in on the matter. Pastor Adeyemi, a senior pastor at RCCG Ojota, remarked, “As a church, we pray for peace and unity. The divisions we see are often fueled by individuals with hidden agendas. We encourage all to seek peaceful resolutions.”

Meanwhile, the Lekki Toll Gate incident, where peaceful protesters were reportedly shot at, remains fresh in the minds of many Lagosians. Sega, a notable activist, commented, “We need accountability and justice for those harmed. Lagos should be a safe haven for all, irrespective of their ethnic background.”

President Bola Tinubu, in response to the ongoing tensions, urged for calm and cooperation among all communities. In a recent address, he stated, “Lagos is a city for everyone. We must not allow divisive elements to disrupt our peace and progress. Let us work together for the betterment of all.”

Maitama, a prominent figure in the northern Nigerian community in Lagos, also added, “The strength of Lagos lies in its diversity. We must protect that by fostering understanding and cooperation among all ethnic groups.”
