late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. Okorocha made the plea during a tribute event held on Monday, November 18, 2024.

He urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to deliver this message to the Federal Government, stressing that the best way to honor Ubah would be to release Kanu, thereby allowing the Igbo community to come together and heal. He added that, even if Akpabio was hesitant to act, he should send the message for the sake of his wife, whom Okorocha referred to as a daughter of the Igbo people.

Ubah, who passed away on July 27, 2024, in London, will be laid to rest on November 22.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives member Obi Aguocha also expressed optimism about Kanu’s release, revealing that discussions were ongoing to secure the IPOB leader’s freedom. Aguocha, who represents the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, criticized the disparity in how Ndigbo are treated in comparison to other Nigerians. He also pointed out that Kanu should have been granted the same privileges under Section 174 of Nigeria’s Constitution, similar to Yoruba Nation leader Sunday Igboho.

Aguocha, along with other lawmakers and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, has met with the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, and President Bola Tinubu to discuss the matter.
