The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday unveiled a revised timetable and schedule of activities for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. According to the commission, the adjustments were necessary following amendments to the Electoral Act recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.

INEC, through a statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, confirmed that the presidential and governorship elections are now slated for Saturday, January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2027.

The commission outlined that party primaries are scheduled to begin on April 23, 2026, and conclude on May 30, 2026. Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, whereas campaigns for the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will start on September 9, 2026. All campaigns are to conclude 24 hours before their respective election days.

Additionally, the Osun State governorship election, initially scheduled for August 8, 2026, has been shifted to Saturday, August 15, 2026. INEC emphasized that while some activities related to the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections have already been carried out, all remaining activities will follow the 2026 Electoral Act.
