In a statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group expressed gratitude to the ESN operatives for their contributions in fighting terrorism, protecting agricultural lands, and maintaining peace in the southeastern region.

Established on December 12, 2020, by IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, ESN was formed in response to security threats, particularly from alleged terrorist activities such as those attributed to Fulani herdsmen. IPOB claims that ESN’s presence has greatly reduced attacks, killings, and farm invasions in the region.

IPOB praised the operatives for their resilience, particularly in difficult circumstances, including working in remote areas and facing dangerous confrontations. Special recognition was given to those who lost their lives in service.

“The warrior’s spirit of both the living and the departed comrades continues to work toward the restoration of Biafra,” the statement read.

The group urged Biafrans, both in Nigeria and the diaspora, to maintain their support—financially and morally—for ESN. IPOB emphasized that ESN adheres to a strict ethical code, with operatives dedicated to protecting Biafra land and refraining from criminal acts. It was warned that any operative who breaches this code would face severe consequences.

The statement also addressed local vigilante groups allegedly working with security forces to target IPOB members, asserting a zero-tolerance policy against land acquisitions by Fulani herdsmen and warning of harsh actions against those involved in abductions and killings in the region.

Furthermore, IPOB reiterated its demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other detained members, calling their continued imprisonment unjust.

“Self-determination is not a crime under any law,” IPOB declared. “We shall never retreat or surrender until Biafrans are granted the right to vote in a referendum or peacefully exit Nigeria through lawful means.”

The statement concluded with a call for unity, vigilance, and ongoing support for ESN as it faces future security challenges.
