Islamic State Militants Claim Lives Of Nine Syrian Soldiers: Monitoring Group Reports
In the desolate expanse of Syria’s Badia desert, Islamic State (IS) jihadists struck, claiming the lives of nine Syrian soldiers, according to a report from a war monitoring group. The attack occurred in the eastern region of Hama province in central Syria, leaving three soldiers wounded in addition to the casualties….READ ALSO Gunmen Claim Lives Of 3 Soldiers And 2 Vigilantes In Nasarawa Ambush
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed that the soldiers were targeted while gathered in the area. IS has intensified its assaults in Syria lately, focusing particularly on the Badia desert, stretching from the outskirts of Damascus to the Iraqi border.
This recent attack follows a pattern of escalating violence by the Sunni Muslim extremist group. On February 2, five members of forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fell victim to IS attacks, as reported by the Britain-based Observatory.
Similarly, on January 9, at least 14 government soldiers were killed in an IS assault in the eastern part of Homs province.
Although territorially defeated in Syria in 2019, IS remnants persist, executing deadly hit-and-run attacks and ambushes, often from remote desert hideouts. The jihadist group had seized substantial territories in Syria and Iraq in 2014, establishing its so-called “caliphate” and unleashing widespread terror.
The Syrian conflict, ignited in 2011 by the government’s crackdown on pro-democracy protests, has inflicted immense devastation, claiming over half a million lives and plunging the nation into chaos.
