Iyabo Obasanjo Slams PDP: ‘They Are Idiots
According to Ireporter Online, Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has affirmed that she does not regret leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Returning to active politics after a 15-year hiatus, Obasanjo joined the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections in Ogun State. During an appearance on Frontline, a current affairs program on Eagle 102.5 FM Ilese Ijebu, she reflected on her experience with the PDP, noting that the party often engaged her only during election periods, sidelining her contributions and perspectives.
“My decision was based on careful analysis and where I feel comfortable,” she said. “I could not continue in an organization that made no effort to understand why I left. The only time I got a call from them was when the elections were approaching, and they needed support. That transactional approach was unacceptable.”
Obasanjo further expressed that she has no intention of returning to the PDP. “At the level I left, I felt disregarded. The individuals in that party are not people I want to associate with. I think they’re incompetent, because elections are about people. If you fail to engage those who are prominent within your ranks, how can you expect to succeed?” she questioned.
She concluded by emphasizing that politics should center on caring for people and including them in the process, not merely using them for political gain. “If leaders cannot value their team, how can they care for the citizens?” she asked.
