Jeremiah Useni, Former FCT Minister And Plateau Political Icon, Dies At 82

Retired Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has passed away at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.

Public Affairs, Gyang Bere. Governor Mutfwang described Useni’s death as a profound loss to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation as a whole.

In his tribute, Mutfwang highlighted Useni’s outstanding contributions to public service, particularly in advancing peace and security in Plateau State and northern Nigeria.

“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, deeply regrets to inform the citizens of Plateau State and patriotic Nigerians of the passing of this exceptional leader,” the statement read.

Governor Mutfwang recounted Useni’s remarkable career, including his roles as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and FCT Minister. After retiring from the military, Useni entered politics, becoming Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party and later serving as Senator for Plateau South under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015.

Useni was lauded for his selfless service and dedication to the well-being of his community. Governor Mutfwang emphasized that his legacy of compassion, generosity, and commitment to public service will inspire generations to come.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend heartfelt condolences to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, his immediate family, and everyone mourning the loss of this distinguished elder statesman,” Mutfwang concluded.
