Joke Silva Takes The Spotlight As AMVCA Returns For 12th Edition
According to Ireporter Online, renowned Nigerian actress Joke Silva has been appointed as the Head Judge for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The announcement was made at a press briefing held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the MultiChoice studio in Ilupeju, Lagos.
As preparations continue for the star-studded ceremony, Africa Magic is poised to deliver one of its most anticipated editions yet. Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and Channels at MultiChoice West Africa, emphasized the importance of recognising the talent behind the scenes. “Beyond the lights, the red carpet, and the applause, there is a deeper story – one of craftsmanship. The writers, directors, editors, designers, and technicians – the many hands and minds that shape the stories we love – are at the heart of what we celebrate. This year, we are intentionally highlighting that ecosystem of excellence,” Babatunde said.
The 12th AMVCA introduces significant enhancements to strengthen its pan-African reach and commitment to inclusivity. Notably, new categories for Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa have been added, marking a historic step in celebrating Africa’s diverse linguistic and cultural heritage.
“From Lagos to Nairobi, from Dakar to Johannesburg, African stories continue to reflect who we are, how we live, and how we connect with the world,” Babatunde added, highlighting the ceremony’s dedication to cultural authenticity.
This year’s edition will feature 32 award categories, including 18 jury-decided, 11 public-voted, and three special recognition awards, covering Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer honours. The event is headlined by Don Julio as the lead sponsor, with co-sponsorship from Guinness, Singleton, Onga, Johnnie Walker, Orijin, MTN, Smirnoff Ice, QuickTeller, Verve, Indomie, and Lush Hair.
The nominees for the 12th AMVCA will be revealed on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels from 7 PM, hosted by AMVCA-winning actor Chiemezie Imo.
Since its inception in 2013, the AMVCAs have played a pivotal role in Africa’s creative industry, generating employment and fostering growth across multiple sectors. The awards have created over 30,000 jobs in areas such as production design, screenwriting, sound engineering, and artisanal crafts, while providing a platform for African filmmakers and television professionals to gain recognition and celebrate their achievements.
