Adekunle Gold Foundation Empowers Sickle Cell Patients Through Free Medical Outreach
The Adekunle Gold Foundation, in collaboration with the Sickle Cell Advocacy & Management Initiative, has organized a medical outreach program benefiting individuals living with sickle cell disorder in Lagos. The event, which took place on March 14, provided healthcare services to over 400 patients, including specialist consultations, laboratory tests, blood transfusions for severe cases, pain management, physiotherapy support, and the distribution of essential medications. Patients also received prescription drugs and care supplies sufficient to support treatment for up to three months.
According to reports, sickle cell disorder remains one of the most widespread genetic conditions worldwide, with Nigeria bearing a substantial portion of the burden. Access to consistent and affordable healthcare continues to pose a significant challenge for many affected individuals.
The foundation, established by musician Adekunle Gold, focuses on raising awareness and improving access to treatment for those living with the condition. Speaking on the initiative, Adekunle Gold, who has personally lived with sickle cell disorder since childhood, emphasized the aim of easing the burden on patients. He said, “Living with sickle cell is something I understand personally. Beyond the pain, there is the cost of care, which many people cannot afford. We want to make treatment more accessible so people can live better.”
