Wale Ojo & Shaffy Bello Shine In ‘Lights Out’ World Premiere Tour

British-Nigerian actor Wale Ojo and Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello are set to lead the international premiere tour of the highly anticipated film, Lights Out. The premiere will also feature Cameroonian actress Syndy Emade and key figures from the film and cultural industries as the movie debuts across Africa and the United States.

Directed by Enah Johnscott and produced by Carista Asonganyi and Buh Melvin, Lights Out delves into the emotional and psychological impact of memory loss within African communities. According to Ireporter Online, the international rollout will commence on April 18 at Majestic Cinemas Bessenge in Douala, Cameroon. The film will then be screened in Abidjan on May 1 for a Pan-African release before heading to the United States for its premiere on May 2 at Phoenix Theatres Lennox Town Center 24 in Ohio.

Johnscott explained that the film immerses viewers in the mind of its central character, Lucas, portraying his struggle to retain a sense of reality. “Through Lucas’s perspective, the film invites empathy and understanding, gradually revealing confusion that mirrors the emotional reality of cognitive decline,” he said.

Producer Asonganyi noted that the story is inspired by real-life experiences of families navigating dementia with limited resources, while co-producer and writer Melvin emphasized that the film seeks to foster conversations that move from fear toward awareness and care.

Lights Out has previously been showcased at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival and the ORION International Film Festival, where it was a finalist for Best Feature Narrative. It also earned multiple nominations at the Abuja International Film Festival, including Best Cinematography.
