Addressing attendees at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Mua’zu Abubakar Gusau, highlighted the significance of the occasion, noting that the university’s last combined convocation ceremonies were held for the 2017 academic session. He explained that the convocation ceremonies for 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 were suspended due to the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Professor Gusau revealed that the total number of graduands, 2,534, marked a 27.03% increase compared to the previous convocation. He outlined the distribution of graduands across faculties, with 196 from the Humanitarian Faculty, 630 from the Education Faculty, 1195 from the Science Faculty, and 509 from the Management and Social Science Faculty.
Among the graduands, 43 achieved First-class degrees, 676 attained Second Upper Class degrees, while 78 graduated with Third-class degrees.
Highlighting the university’s academic achievements, Professor Gusau stated that FUGUS currently offers 28 academic programs with full accreditation. He emphasized that the institution’s commitment to academic excellence led to consultations resulting in the accreditation of various courses at the postgraduate level.
However, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged the challenges facing the university, particularly in the areas of security and insufficient funding for research activities and other necessities.
The convocation ceremony not only celebrated the academic accomplishments of the graduating students but also served as a testament to the university’s commitment to providing quality education despite prevailing challenges.
