Sen. Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation, has instructed the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to launch an immediate investigation into the Thursday morning collision in Lagos between a passenger train and a bus carrying some civil servants to their workplaces.

While describing the accident as unfortunate, Sirika reassured the public that the NSIB would be able to identify its immediate and underlying causes and suggest solutions for preventing similar incidents in the future.

The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), which was formerly in charge of conducting investigations into accidents involving aircraft, was replaced by the newly established multimodal investigation body known as NSIB.

The minister requested the public’s assistance as the NSIB team’s investigation gets underway in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. James Odaudu.

He expressed his sympathy to the Lagos State government and its residents, in particular those who had lost loved ones, and he prayed for the accident victims’ speedy recovery.

According to reports, when the moving train struck the bus at the PWD bus stop in the state’s Ikeja area, three people were confirmed dead and many others suffered injuries of varying severity.
