JUST IN: Suspect In Ex-CBN Official, Wife’s Murder Escapes From Police Custody (DETAILS)
There are indications that the main suspect in the gruesome murder of a couple, Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye, in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, has escaped police custody.
The state police have yet to confirm this development, as attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, proved futile.
According to reports, the main suspect, simply known as Lekan, escaped from police custody at the Ibara Police Divisional Headquarters on Tuesday.
The identity of Lekan, who was the late Mrs Fatinoye’s driver until Friday, was said to be a closely guarded secret within the police hierarchy.

The suspect was said to have driven Mrs Fatinoye for nearly two years and was well known within the community of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), where Fatinoye worked.
Lekan was said to have been apprehended after another suspect, a housekeeper for the Fatinoyes, was apprehended.
According to a family member, Lekan was apprehended at the Ibara Police Station after the house help, who also escaped assassination by the assailants, identified him as one of the killers at the scene.
It was also revealed that when the police were taking a statement from Lekan, he slumped and was almost lifeless, not knowing that it was all an act and a ploy to avoid lawful custody.
Lekan was allegedly rushed to a police clinic in Zone II, not far from the Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in order to’rescue’ him and assist the police in their investigation.
According to the source, while trying to’rescue’ him, Lekan suddenly awoke, caught the health workers off guard, took to his heels, and fled the clinic.
The source went on to say that police efforts to re-arrest the suspect were futile, and that there were indiscriminate gunshots while the police chased the suspect.
The police, on the other hand, have declared the escaped suspect wanted and launched a manhunt for him.
Since Thursday, a ‘wanted’ message with Lekan’s picture has been circulating, but it bears no police insignia.
The message read, “Wanted! Wanted!! Wanted!!! This is the guy suspected to have been part of the culprits that murdered a couple in Abeokuta on New Year’s Eve. His name is Lekan. He is currently at large and has been declared wanted by the Police. Anyone who knows or sees him should contact the nearest police station. Kindly share.”
