Represented by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Ishaq Salako, Tinubu’s delegation highlighted the difficulties encountered from May 2023 until November 2024 under Obaseki’s administration.

“Despite persistent efforts, we struggled for nearly 24 months to establish the centre. However, within three months of Governor Okpebholo’s tenure, we achieved what had seemed impossible,” Salako remarked, commending the current administration’s swift cooperation. He further noted that the state has provided a temporary site to kickstart operations and allocated 24 hectares for a permanent facility.

President Tinubu emphasized the critical health challenge posed by obstetric fistula in Nigeria, which records around 12,000 cases annually, making it the highest globally. He underscored the social and psychological implications of the condition, revealing that some affected individuals resort to suicide.

To address this, the Federal Government has launched a free fistula management program that includes social support and rehabilitation. The President praised Governor Okpebholo for aligning with federal healthcare priorities, describing him as a “political son” dedicated to improving healthcare in Edo State.
