Kano State Government Allocates N10 Billion To Office Furniture In Six Months, Neglecting Key Sectors

In the first six months of 2024, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf allocated N10.4 billion to office furniture and fittings, exceeding the entire year’s budget of N3.9 billion for the same purpose.

This expenditure dwarfs the capital expenditures for crucial sectors such as water resources (N4.2 billion), rural and community development (N179 million), education (N2.5 billion), higher education (N323.6 million), health (N959 million), and hospital rehabilitation (N1.3 billion), which collectively totaled N9.4 billion.

The prioritization of office furniture comes amidst significant developmental challenges in the state, including inadequate healthcare and persistent water shortages. This spending has sparked criticism, especially in light of recent calls for reduced governance costs. The Northern Patriotic Agenda (NPA) has urged Governor Yusuf to focus on delivering democratic dividends to Kano residents, accusing him of political grandstanding and neglecting his gubernatorial duties.
