VIDEO: Igbo Youths Receive Cash To Avoid #EndBadGovernance Protest, Ohanaeze Youths Advocate Alternative Actions
A video obtained by SaharaReporters reveals that money was distributed to Igbo youths in Southeast Nigeria to persuade them against joining the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest. The video shows that youths gathered in Enugu received payments ranging from N10,000 to N15,000. This is reportedly the first instance of financial incentives being offered at an Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth gathering.
Although the identities of the sponsors remain unknown, some attendees speculated that local governors might be involved. Despite accepting the money, several beneficiaries expressed a willingness to join the protest if it takes place in Enugu, citing severe economic issues as a motivating factor.
Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, Acting President of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, addressed the media, explaining the group’s decision to boycott the protest. He cited a preference for dialogue over confrontation, emphasizing concerns about potential violence and property destruction reminiscent of the 2020 EndSARS protests. Okpalaezeukwu acknowledged the legitimate grievances but advocated for constructive engagement to address the region’s challenges.
