Violence Erupts In Port Harcourt: Thugs Storm Protest Ground, Silence Dissent

On Tuesday, thugs overtook the protest site that had been utilized during the August #EndBadGovernance demonstration in Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

This location was previously designated as the meeting point for the ‘FearlessInOctober’ protest against the escalating economic hardships facing the nation.

Armed with canes, the hoodlums declared their opposition to any protests in Rivers State, threatening violence against journalists who attempted to document the scene.

While similar protests are taking place in cities like Lagos and Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary, the demonstrators are calling on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to reverse the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates—policies they argue are driving up inflation and increasing living costs across the country.
