2023 Election: ‘I Knew PDP Would Lose’ — Okowa Makes Fresh Revelation

Former Delta State Governor and former vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, has revealed that he was already convinced the party would lose the 2023 presidential election before the final results were declared.

According to Ireporter Online, Okowa, who served as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election, said his assessment of the political situation at the time led him to predict that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would emerge victorious.

Okowa made the disclosure while recalling a meeting he had with Christian leaders before the election. He said he had informed them that the APC would finish first, the PDP second and the Labour Party (LP) third.

“I knew we would not win the election,” Okowa said.

“And even when I met with the Christian leaders, I told them that APC will win, while PDP will come second and then LP will come third.”

The 2023 presidential election was eventually won by Bola Tinubu of the APC, with Atiku finishing second and Peter Obi of the Labour Party coming third.

Okowa made the latest remarks at an APC gathering in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, where he also urged party supporters to remain committed ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former governor called on APC members to ensure that their support for the party translates into actual votes for its candidates.

“I am overwhelmed by the large turnout of our people. I urge you to remain loyal to the APC and ensure that your support translates into votes for all our candidates in 2027,” he said.

Okowa’s comments come as political parties and their supporters intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
