Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has opened up about his first marriage, revealing that he had warned his former wife, Funke Kuti, about his lifestyle before they got married.

According to Ireporter Online, the 64-year-old musician made the disclosure during an interview with Channels Television, where he discussed his views on relationships and his personal life.

Femi said he was upfront with Funke before their marriage, telling her that he loved women and did not believe he could remain faithful to one partner.

The musician also disclosed that one of his motivations for getting married was to ensure that his children would have access to British passports.

“I told my first wife before we got married that I love women and could never be faithful to just one woman. I only married her so my children could get a British passport,” Femi said.

Femi was married to Funke Kuti, and the couple had one child, Omorinmade Kuti, popularly known as Made Kuti, who was born in 1995.

The marriage eventually ended in divorce after several years.

The veteran musician has also continued to speak publicly about issues affecting Nigeria. In a separate discussion on the Good News Naija podcast, Femi argued that President Bola Tinubu was not the country’s biggest problem.
