Abuja Erupts: #FearlessOctober1 Protest Ignites Nationwide Outcry Against Bad Governance

A nationwide protest known as #FearlessInOctober has officially commenced today in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to Naija News, this demonstration is a continuation of the #EndBadGovernance protests held from August 1 to 10, which were triggered by the economic hardships many Nigerians are currently facing.

Protesters began gathering at the busy Utako market in the Utako district as early as 7 a.m., where the demonstration is now in full swing.

Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, expressed significant concern regarding the country’s economic challenges, attributing these issues to the Federal Government’s policies.

In response, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has assured Abuja residents of a secure and smooth celebration for October 1st Independence Day.

In a statement released on Monday by Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh, the police confirmed that they have deployed sufficient personnel and resources throughout the capital in preparation for the nation’s 64th Independence Day festivities.

Adeh assured the public that the police force has put in place both operatives and equipment to guarantee a trouble-free celebration for FCT residents.

The statement also noted that the deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot gear, and visibility policing, among other measures.

Additionally, traffic diversions will be implemented in areas expected to draw large crowds, such as the Central Area and Eagle Square.

The police spokesperson urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or movements to the FCT Police emergency lines.
