A grassroots fundraising initiative in Yobe State has amassed approximately ₦188 million in pledges and donations to support Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan’s campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

The fundraiser, held on Sunday in Damaturu, the state capital, attracted contributions from communities across the state, including cash, pledges, and bank transfers. According to Ireporter Online, the funds were deposited into a dedicated Sterling Bank account established for the initiative.

In a statement on Monday, Lawan, former President of the Senate and representative of Yobe North Senatorial District, commended the organisers, the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths, led by Dr. Mohammed Goni Yerima. He described the drive as a demonstration of responsible citizenship and active grassroots participation in politics.

The senator expressed particular gratitude for the significant number of small donations, ranging from ₦100 to ₦3,000, contributed by widows, apprentices, traders, and students. He described this outpouring of support as a true reflection of community ownership and participatory democracy.

According to him, the fundraising effort transcends monetary support, symbolising a collective investment in a vision of open, transparent, and accountable governance in Yobe State. Lawan emphasized that his governorship ambition is motivated by a commitment to meeting the aspirations of the people, while seeking divine guidance in achieving his goal.
