The decision, announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stemmed from allegations of appointing an underqualified Vice Chancellor and flouting due process during the selection.

The sacked Governing Council, chaired by Ambassador Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe, was accused of disregarding the university’s laws. Members included Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Engr. Amioleran Osahon, and Rtd. Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin.

Similarly, President Tinubu approved the dismissal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo. Salami was accused of unlawfully suspending the Vice Chancellor, ignoring directives from the Federal Ministry of Education, and exhibiting abusive behavior towards ministry officials.

The Federal Government emphasized that university councils must adhere to the laws governing their institutions and avoid actions that disrupt academic stability. President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the nation’s educational standards.
