Lesotho Coach Addresses South Africa’s Potential 3-Point Forfeiture

Lesotho’s national football team head coach, Leslie Notsi, has confirmed that the Lesotho Football Association (LFA) has lodged an official complaint against South Africa for allegedly fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in a recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Group C.

Mokhosi Mohapi, the Secretary-General of the Lesotho Football Association, has confirmed that they have reached out to FIFA to inquire about Mokoena’s eligibility for the match.

If FIFA rules in Lesotho’s favor, South Africa could forfeit the three points from the match, while Lesotho would be awarded three points and three goals. Such a decision would significantly impact the standings in Group C and could benefit Nigeria, who currently trail South Africa by six points.

Coach Notsi, when asked for his opinion on the situation, maintained a measured and diplomatic stance, stating, “While I recognize the importance of this issue, my focus remains on our next match against Rwanda.” He further noted that while formal complaints have been submitted, he is not in a position to comment on the details or current status of the ongoing inquiries, as reported by Soccer Laduma.
