Libya Set To Face Nigeria On Artificial Turf In 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

The upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Matchday 4 encounter between Group D bottom-placed Libya and leaders, Super Eagles of Nigeria, will be played on artificial turf.

Earlier today, the Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that Libya has confirmed that they will take on the Super Eagles at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium. This stadium, located in the city of Benina, is situated approximately 19 kilometres outside Benghazi, the country’s second-largest city.

Note that the 10,000-capacity facility, which was formerly known as Hugo Chávez Stadium, has artificial turf, which could be a problem for Super Eagles players who are used to playing on natural grass.

Both teams will first face each other in a Matchday 3 battle at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, 11th October, before meeting again in Benina on Tuesday, 15th October.

The match in Uyo is scheduled to kick off at 5 pm, while the clash in Benina will commence at 8 pm Nigeria time.

Note that the Super Eagles lead the group with four points, following a 3-0 victory over the Benin Republic in Uyo on Matchday 1 and a goalless draw with Rwanda’s Amavubi in Kigali on Matchday 2.

As for Libya, they are currently sitting bottom of the group having secured a 1-1 draw at home to Rwanda at the Tripoli International Stadium and suffered a 1-2 loss to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan.
