Lucky Aiyedatiwa Approves Federal Salary Structure For Health Workers In Ondo State

According to Ireporter Online, the Ondo State Government has approved the implementation of the Federal Government’s reviewed salary structure for medical officers and other health workers in a move aimed at improving healthcare delivery and boosting workers’ morale across the state. The State Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, made this known on Wednesday during the annual get-together and send-off ceremony for retired permanent secretaries and tutors-general held in Akure, noting that the policy is part of broader reforms to strengthen the public service. He added that the administration is also addressing manpower shortages in the health sector through fresh recruitment, with about 5,000 new appointments already made across various levels of the civil service to enhance service delivery.

Philip further commended the administration of Lucky Aiyedatiwa for prioritising workers’ welfare, prompt payment of retirees’ entitlements, and ongoing civil service expansion, while revealing that terminal benefits for retired permanent secretaries are now being paid without delay. He also disclosed that accommodation support had been approved for about 150 retired graduate headmasters affected by a policy delay dating back to 2009, many of whom reportedly died before receiving intervention. In his remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa said his government would continue to tap from the experience and institutional memory of retired civil servants to strengthen governance, stressing that retirement should be seen as a transition into mentorship and advisory roles. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving welfare, boosting productivity, and strengthening institutions across Ondo State. Also speaking, the Chairman of the Forum of Ondo State Permanent Secretaries, Segun Odusanya, praised ongoing reforms including the appointment of 34 permanent secretaries and provision of official vehicles for 22 officers, while noting improvements in gratuity payments up to 2019 for state retirees and 2014 for local government pensioners. Traditional ruler, the Orungberuwa of Ode-Erinje Kingdom, Oladele Akinmoye, and the President of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries, Mojisola Grace Ajayi, also commended the government’s interventions, saying they have improved post-service welfare and reduced hardship among retirees.
