Malam-Audu Bridge Gives Way, Cutting Off Key Route to Jalingo

The Malam-Audu bridge, a critical connection between Pantisawa in Yorro Local Government Area and Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, collapsed on Thursday, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded.

Eyewitnesses reported that the structure gave way suddenly following several hours of heavy rainfall, though no casualties had been confirmed at the time of reporting. The collapse has disrupted transportation along the busy route, forcing travelers to take longer alternative routes.

Residents expressed frustration over the authorities’ failure to repair the Namnai bridge, which collapsed last year, and urged prompt action to address the current situation. “We are calling on the government to take this seriously because we have been cut off from the state capital and other parts of the state,” said Mallam Saliu.

Community members warned that the incident could have serious economic consequences for the local area, Taraba North, and the state as a whole. The collapse occurs a year after the Namnai bridge in Gassol Local Government Area was damaged, highlighting ongoing infrastructure challenges in the state.
