Julius Abure, Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, has criticized the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of being overly desperate to become Nigeria’s president.

In a statement personally signed on Thursday, Abure claimed that Obi was responsible for the internal crisis within the Labour Party. He alleged that Obi’s attempts to dominate the party had created chaos, and that the former Anambra State governor had betrayed the goodwill extended to him by party leaders.

“This is why we maintain that Peter Obi lacks the competence, character, and capacity to realize the vision of a new Nigeria,” Abure said. “Nigerians should not forget that it was Obi who initiated the crisis he now cites as a reason for not supporting the party.”

Abure’s remarks came in response to Obi’s recent directives urging his supporters to back candidates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming August 16 by-elections across several states.
