The case was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), with the verdict delivered by Judge Aisha Kumaliya on November 28. The defendants were charged with defrauding Bukar Kachalla, the owner of Abks Ventures, by fraudulently persuading him to transfer a 2012 Toyota Camry valued at ₦6 million, which they did not pay for or return.

Initially arraigned on September 1, 2020, the trio faced four amended counts of conspiracy, cheating, and providing false information but pleaded not guilty. Throughout the trial, the EFCC presented three witnesses and submitted various documents as evidence.

In her ruling, Justice Kumaliya found all three defendants guilty and ordered them to serve five years in prison without the option of a fine. Additionally, the court mandated that they jointly repay ₦3.5 million to the complainant, with a failure to comply resulting in a further five-year prison term for each defendant.
