Matawalle: North Will Deliver More Votes For Tinubu
Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure an even stronger electoral performance across Northern Nigeria in the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration’s achievements in security and national development.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, the minister maintained that President Tinubu continues to enjoy widespread political support, particularly in the Northwest, where residents have witnessed the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity and improve infrastructure and economic opportunities.
Matawalle stated that no amount of propaganda, misinformation, or politically motivated criticism would derail the President’s commitment to fulfilling his promises to Nigerians. He argued that the administration’s accomplishments are becoming increasingly evident through improvements in security, livelihoods, and economic prospects across the country.
The defence minister accused some opposition figures, especially in the Northwest, of deliberately spreading misleading narratives and exaggerating security concerns in a bid to diminish the progress recorded by the current administration. He claimed that critics have chosen to overlook significant gains against criminal elements while focusing on isolated incidents to create fear and political uncertainty.
He further asserted that the opposition is unsettled by what he described as visible successes in the fight against insecurity and ongoing development initiatives nationwide.
Matawalle also praised the dedication and sacrifices of Nigeria’s security agencies, acknowledging the commitment of personnel who have lost their lives while defending the country. He noted that the Tinubu administration has adopted a more coordinated, intelligence-driven strategy in combating insecurity, particularly across the Northwest states of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kebbi.
According to the minister, the security approach has resulted in the elimination of several notorious bandit leaders and the dismantling of criminal hideouts throughout the region.
He added that the Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering positive outcomes across critical sectors, including security, infrastructure, agriculture, social investment, and economic reform. Matawalle highlighted ongoing federal interventions in Northern Nigeria, pointing to road rehabilitation projects, investments in agricultural value chains, food security programmes, rail and energy infrastructure development, as well as initiatives designed to empower young people and women.
