Between January 27 and February 16, the military’s operations yielded impressive results, with 3,282,250 litres of stolen crude oil, 224,050 litres of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), and 5,925 litres of DPK (Dual Purpose Kerosene) retrieved.

Additionally, the troops dismantled 131 dug-out pits, demolished 67 illegal refining sites, and destroyed 125 storage tanks. The crackdown led to the arrest of 104 individuals suspected of involvement in oil theft.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, outlined the success of the operations, emphasizing the significant dent made in oil theft activities. The recovered items included boats, motorcycles, vehicles, and a range of equipment used in illegal refining.

The menace of oil theft has been a longstanding challenge in Nigeria, negatively impacting economic growth and posing risks to oil companies. Recent efforts by the military aim to curtail this illicit activity, safeguarding Nigeria’s vital oil resources.

In addition to combating oil theft, the military also reported success in counter-terrorism operations. Over 250 terrorists were neutralized, and 264 others apprehended. Notably, 73 kidnapped hostages were rescued, and a vast array of weapons and ammunition, including firearms, grenades, and explosives, were confiscated.

The comprehensive efforts of the military underscore a commitment to securing Nigeria’s territorial integrity and combating criminal activities that threaten national security and prosperity.
