Miraculous Rescue: 13-Year-Old British Girl Saved From Forced Marriage In Pakistan
A 13-year-old British schoolgirl faced with the peril of a forced marriage to her cousin in Pakistan has been rescued just in the nick of time. The clandestinely arranged wedding, orchestrated by her father, was thwarted at the eleventh hour, leading to her safe return to the UK last weekend……CONTINUE READING
The distressing situation came to light when the girl’s desperate mother sent a text message seeking help from a neighbor in England, revealing her child was on the verge of marrying a grown man as per her father’s orders.
The mother, who fell victim to her husband’s deception during a family holiday in Pakistan, discovered that her daughter was slated to wed a 19-year-old cousin against her will. The father’s family took control of their lives, leaving the mother and daughter in a precarious situation.
The alarmed mother reached out to a neighbor associated with the women’s anti-abuse charity Jeena International, triggering alerts to British authorities, social workers, and the Forced Marriage Unit. The British Embassy in Pakistan intervened, and after weeks of negotiation, the passports were returned by the father’s family.
Legal action ensued in England, with a court ruling in December that the mother and her child must be repatriated. A court order highlighting the girl’s vulnerability to forced marriage was issued to Interpol, prompting airport alerts in case the child was whisked away by her father’s relatives.
During her stay in Pakistan, the girl was deprived of education for five months, confined indoors, and likely overheard the plans for her unwanted marriage. Despite the challenges faced upon their return, the mother and daughter are now safe in the UK.
This harrowing incident sheds light on the urgency of addressing forced marriages and the need for vigilance and intervention to protect potential victims, especially underage individuals coerced into such unions.
