Mob Butchers NSCDC Officer in Jigawa After Arresting Suspect

A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as SC Bashir Adamu Jibril, was reportedly murdered in a violent mob attack in Jigawa State.

According to accounts obtained by iReporter Online, the fatal incident occurred at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area on Monday, shortly after the officer arrested a suspected criminal. Eyewitnesses say the arrest sparked outrage among the suspect’s alleged accomplices, who launched a deadly assault on the officer using cutlasses, sticks, and other crude weapons.

In an official statement, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, confirmed the attack and described it as an act of lawless brutality. He stated that SC Jibril, attached to the Intelligence Department, was carrying out his lawful duties at around 1:00 PM when he was ambushed by a mob bent on thwarting justice.

The officer sustained severe injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to Dutse General Hospital. Medical personnel, however, pronounced him dead on arrival.

The NSCDC has since apprehended the alleged ringleader of the mob, while investigations are underway to track down others involved. The Corps has vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice, describing the act as a “barbaric instance of jungle justice” against an officer who died in the line of duty.

The Command further assured both the public and the bereaved family that it remains committed to ensuring justice is fully served and that such acts of violence against law enforcement personnel will not be tolerated.
