Niger On Lockdown As Police Smash Crime Ring, Arrest 24 Suspects

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended 24 suspected criminals in a well-coordinated pre-dawn operation targeting notorious criminal hideouts in Minna.

The operation, which took place on July 30 between 3:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., was led by Commissioner of Police Adamu Abdullahi Elleman and covered areas including Unguwan-Roka, Kwari-Berger, Flamingo, and Tudun Wada within the Maitumbi axis.

According to iReporter Online, the arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.

Among the suspects named were Abubakar Nura (23), Auwal Mohammed (20), Suleiman Hassan (21), Alhassan Mohammed (19), and Usman Abubakar Bahaho (18). Police operatives also recovered a pump-action rifle loaded with cartridges, cutlasses, a pair of scissors, and what is suspected to be illegal drugs.

In a separate bust, according to iReporter Online, two gang members were caught while attempting to escape from a shop linked to a suspected kingpin, with an additional eleven suspects arrested in related operations.

Commissioner Elleman has urged citizens to remain calm, reiterating the command’s unwavering dedication to crime prevention and public safety.
