The lecture, organized by a committee of friends, honored the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba.
Amin underscored the importance of universities extending community services, urging both staff and students to actively participate. He stressed the need to foster a sense of belonging among host communities through various initiatives such as community work and providing classes for students preparing for examinations like JAMB, SSCE, or NECO.
According to Amin, prioritizing teaching assistance over academic publications can have a more immediate impact on the community by helping students succeed in their exams.

Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, affirmed the university’s dedication to implementing the advice on community services. Reflecting on his tenure’s challenges, including insurgency, COVID-19, and funding constraints, Shugaba highlighted the university’s achievements amidst adversity. He expressed gratitude to staff, students, the Borno Government, and other stakeholders for their support in advancing the university’s transformation.
