According to Ireporteronline, six out of the eight aspirants vying for the position across various political parties are affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). While the leadership of INEC in the state was not available for comments on the preparation status, sources within the commission assured that preparations are underway.

INEC staff, speaking to Ireporteronline, mentioned that they are awaiting the conclusion of party primaries and emphasized their commitment to providing a level playing field for all candidates emerging from the primaries. The commission urged political parties to conduct free, fair, and credible primaries, warning that any violation of electoral laws would not be tolerated.

The staff stated, “We are going to create a level playground for all the candidates and their political parties. It is our prayers and hopes that they will also reciprocate by following the rules of the game as laid down by the commission so that no candidate will be disqualified from participating in the forthcoming bye-election.”

Some aspirants, particularly from the PDP, called on the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, and the party’s leadership to allow the people of the constituency to choose their candidate freely. They emphasized the need for a transparent primary process and cautioned against interference that could be detrimental to the party’s growth. The PDP, through its spokesperson, Andetarang Iramae, assured aspirants of the party’s readiness to conduct a free and transparent primary for all participants.
