Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Likely to Decline Further in 2025, Says Expert
Dr. Muda Yusuf, an economic expert and CEO of the Centre for Protection of Private Enterprises (CPPE), has projected that Nigeria’s inflation rate may further decelerate in 2025. He attributed the moderation in inflation to two main factors: the base effect and improvements in macroeconomic stability, particularly the easing of exchange rate volatility………..READ MORE
Dr. Yusuf noted that the base effect, which compares inflation figures of 2025 to the elevated levels of 2024, plays a significant role in the observed decrease. The second factor, macroeconomic stability, includes the reduction in exchange rate volatility, which is contributing to more stable prices.
However, despite this reduction, Yusuf emphasized that an inflation rate of 23.18%, the current level as of February 2025, is still high, indicating that prices continue to rise but at a slower pace. This moderation in inflation, while positive, is met with skepticism from some Nigerians, as the prices of everyday goods and services remain high. Critics question the authenticity of official statistics, with many arguing that they don’t align with the reality of rising living costs.
