Nigeria’s New High Commissioner Officially Assumes Duty In Ghana
According to Ireporter Online, Nigeria’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Shehu Ilu Barde, has arrived in Accra to formally begin his diplomatic assignment as the country’s envoy to Ghana.
Ambassador Barde arrived in Ghana on June 18, where he was received by officials of the Nigerian High Commission, members of the defence section, the trade commission, and representatives of the Nigerian community resident in the country.
The career diplomat was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in March as part of a group of ambassadors deployed to Nigeria’s foreign missions. He is expected to deepen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ghana while advancing cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, including diplomacy, trade, and regional development.
Barde joined Nigeria’s foreign service in 1995 and has served in various diplomatic postings, including Burkina Faso, the United States, Ethiopia, and France. He was named Ambassador-in-Situ in 2022 and later received a Presidential Commendation in 2023 in recognition of his service.
Born in Katsina State in 1967, he holds a degree in Sociology from Bayero University, Kano. He has also undergone professional training at the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy in Lagos and participated in several diplomatic and management programmes within and outside Nigeria.
Over his three-decade career in public service, Ambassador Barde has been actively involved in several bilateral and multilateral engagements, including sessions of the African Union and the United Nations.
