Sen. Ahmad Lawal, the committee’s chairman, made this statement to reporters following an oversight visit to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna, on Monday.

Lawal emphasized that security is currently a central concern, vowing to ensure that the nation’s security apparatus and armed forces receive the attention they deserve.

“When we secure our environment, we can more easily and comfortably provide for other needs,” he remarked.

He highlighted the significance of the AFCSC, stating that the Senate views it as a crucial institution for training and educating the nation’s military personnel.

“This institution plays a vital role at tactical, operational, and mid-levels for officers who lead various military operations,” he noted.

In this context, Lawal stressed the necessity for adequate funding for the AFCSC and other defense institutions, such as the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and the National Defence College.

“I say this with utmost responsibility, as this is where individuals from different parts of the world come to receive training. This underscores that our efforts are on the right track,” he concluded.
