No Word From Dubai! FG Claims Silence From UAE On Visa Restrictions

The Federal Government has clarified that it has not received any official communication from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) regarding a change or revision in its visa policy for Nigerian citizens.

This clarification came amidst growing speculation and public concern following recent developments surrounding visa issuance protocols by both the UAE and the United States.

According to iReporter Online, the Presidency responded through its Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, who emphasized that Nigeria remains fully committed to maintaining and strengthening its diplomatic ties with both nations. He assured the public that the government is actively monitoring the situation and is engaged in diplomatic efforts to address all emerging issues.

“The recent developments in visa policies by these countries, particularly affecting Nigerian citizens, have not gone unnoticed,” Onanuga stated. He further noted that relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are already working behind the scenes to ensure that Nigeria’s interests are protected through proper diplomatic channels.

The United States, in an earlier diplomatic note, had justified its new visa measures by citing concerns over high rates of visa overstays by Nigerian nationals and difficulties in accessing accurate applicant records. However, when addressing the UAE matter specifically, Onanuga reiterated that the Nigerian government had not received any formal update or notification from the Emirati authorities suggesting a revised visa regime.
