Olumide Akpata: Standing Firm Against Baseless Accusations
Written By Oshiobugie John
In a world where political campaigns are often clouded by misinformation and baseless accusations, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for the Edo 2024 election, has taken a bold stand to clear the air. Recently, a piece of political fiction circulated on social media, attempting to tarnish Akpata’s reputation by alleging his involvement in a “secret alliance” with the All Progressives Congress (APC). These claims, backed by nothing more than old photographs of Akpata with Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila during his tenure as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, have been dismissed by Akpata as desperate attempts by his opponents to distract the public from the real issues at hand.
Akpata’s response to these allegations is both unequivocal and powerful. He categorically denies any involvement with the APC or the PDP, branding the claims as fevered fabrications of those whose political fortunes are rapidly declining. Akpata highlights the absurdity of the situation, pointing out that he has been simultaneously accused by the APC of being a PDP mole and by the PDP of collaborating with the APC. This contradictory narrative only serves to underscore the desperation of his detractors, who are clearly threatened by the growing support for Akpata’s campaign, which is fueled by the hopes and aspirations of Edo’s citizens rather than the deep pockets of political godfathers.
Akpata’s campaign is a breath of fresh air in a political landscape that has long been dominated by the same band of inept and parasitic pretenders. His message is clear: he is not one of them. He stands as an independent candidate, unbought and unbowed, dedicated to the people of Edo State. As the election draws near, Akpata calls on the citizens of Edo to remain vigilant and to see through the tired tactics of character assassination that have been employed against him. With their support, he is confident that the Labour Party will lead Edo State into a brighter, more prosperous future, free from the shackles of its past.
