Osun Election: Tinubu Sends Strong Message To INEC Ahead Of Saturday’s Poll

According to IReporter Online, the election scheduled for August 15, 2026, will feature 15 candidates contesting for the governorship seat.

Among the leading contenders are incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam.

Tinubu made the appeal in a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The President urged INEC to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and create an environment where voters can freely choose their preferred candidates.

He described the election as an important opportunity for the electoral commission to demonstrate its level of preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Tinubu, the conduct of the Osun poll should reflect transparency, fairness and credibility, stressing that public confidence in the electoral system depends largely on the actions of election officials and the openness of the process.

The President also directed the Inspector-General of Police and heads of other security agencies deployed for the election to provide adequate protection at polling units and other strategic locations across the state.

He warned against allowing individuals or groups to disrupt the election, stressing that voters and electoral officials must be protected from intimidation and violence.

Tinubu encouraged eligible voters in Osun State to come out peacefully and exercise their constitutional right to vote for candidates of their choice.

He assured voters that necessary security arrangements had been put in place to facilitate a peaceful and orderly election.

The President further warned political actors and other stakeholders against actions capable of undermining the electoral process.

He maintained that the credibility of the election would ultimately depend on whether the final outcome accurately reflects the choice of the people of Osun State.

Tinubu therefore urged all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, voters, election officials and security agencies, to work together to ensure that the governorship election is conducted peacefully and transparently.
