Oyedepo Rotimi, Nigeria’s New DPPF, Pledges Independent Prosecution, Praises Tinubu

Nigeria’s newly appointed Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Oyedepo Iseoluwa Rotimi (SAN), has vowed to ensure that all prosecutorial decisions under his leadership will be based solely on law, evidence, and the public interest.

In a statement following his appointment, Rotimi described the position as a solemn national duty, emphasizing that the credibility of public prosecution hinges on independence, professionalism, and strict adherence to the rule of law.

“Prosecutorial decisions under my leadership will be guided solely by law, evidence, and the public interest, anchored on fairness, diligence, and integrity,” he affirmed.

Rotimi expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving his appointment and to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, for their confidence in him. He also thanked colleagues, mentors, law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations, friends, and family for their support.

Acknowledging the challenges facing Nigeria’s justice sector, including delays, selective prosecution, and public concerns over interference, Rotimi said his appointment represents a solemn call to service. He pledged to strengthen the nation’s public prosecution system to address current challenges and prepare for future demands.

He outlined his priorities as ensuring prosecutorial independence, operational efficiency, and strict compliance with the Constitution, stressing that restoring public trust in the justice system requires consistency and courage in decision-making.

Rotimi further emphasized the importance of collaboration, noting that effective prosecution cannot thrive in isolation. “I look forward to constructive engagement and cooperation as we work together to build a credible, formidable, and future-ready public prosecution system for our nation,” he stated.
