PDP Crisis: Leadership Is About Character – Oshiomhole Backs Wike

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis rages on, Adams Oshiomhole, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has thrown his support behind Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

This was stated by Oshiomhole on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Rumuepirikom Flyover in Rivers’ Obio-Akpor Local Government Area. According to him, leadership is about character rather than making promises that will not be kept.

Wike invited Oshiomhole, who served as governor from 2008 to 2016, to commission the project. He claims that executive exchanges communicate to the public that the political divide is not a war zone.

“Two weeks ago, I had an interview and someone asked me what my views are on the issues in the PDP as they relate to Your Excellency (Wike),” Oshiomhole said to the Rivers governor.

“I said Wike is my man of the year because he is insisting that politics is not about making agreements that we do not intend to deliver on. Leadership is about character,” he added.

Oshiomhole also recalled that on May 11, 2021, at Asaba, Delta State, the 17 Southern governors of Nigeria convened and decided that the country’s future leader should come from the Southern area.

He claimed that the Asaba Declaration was made of the governors’ own free will and that they agreed on the country’s next president’s origins.

“So, if you voluntarily reach an agreement, you are expected to obey your agreement. Now, if you disobey the agreement and said, ‘No, I will stand with the agreement’, what is wrong with that?” Oshiomhole queried.

He lauded Wike for the many “beautiful projects” in Rivers, saying results are stubborn and don’t lie.

Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor of South-South Nigeria, had invited members of opposition political parties to inaugurate projects in the oil-rich state.

Wike and four other PDP governors, known as the G5, have been calling for Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation for months, claiming that northerners should not be the PDP’s national chairman and presidential candidate.

However, Ayu, a Benue native, has insisted on remaining in office until the end of his four-year term, even as the G5 made his resignation a condition for supporting Adamawa-born Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid in 2023.
