They have called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the country’s macroeconomic and fiscal strategies.
During a meeting held in Jos, Plateau State, the governors discussed the nation’s economic struggles and the impact of recent government reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira. The forum expressed empathy for Nigerians enduring significant economic hardship due to the APC-led administration’s decisions.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who chairs the forum, emphasized the need for an urgent review of these policies to better address the welfare of Nigerians. He stated, “The forum sympathizes with Nigerians suffering under the heavy economic burden imposed by the APC government.”
The PDP governors also reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing policies in their states that will alleviate hardship and promote progress and development.
The forum also addressed recent developments in the Edo and Ondo governorship elections, condemning them as a “rape of democracy” and alleging electoral manipulation in favor of the APC. The governors urged the judiciary to defend the integrity of Nigerian democracy and called on the National Assembly to reform electoral laws to prevent future manipulation.
In addition, the governors announced plans for a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in February 2025 to address ongoing leadership issues within the party. Six state governors, including those from Bauchi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Oyo, and Plateau, attended the one-day meeting, while others, including governors from Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Osun, were absent.
